Cognitive notes

-Labat speaks of intellectual cognition as having form according to its whole latitude, that form as such is universal. The opposite of having form in this way is having it materially.

-In opposing form in reale from form in representando, the point is to point to different modes of one and the same form, not a paradigm and copy.

-An eye isn’t open to any color the way that a pot is open to any fire. If the pot heated up without the fire, it would be just as good of a pot (perhaps even a better one.) If eyes saw colors that weren’t there, it is no longer functioning as a cognitive organ. Note that it’s not just that the eye sees yellow when yellow is there, but cognition requires that the yellow in the world cause the yellow in vision. If a thermostat were not caused to change by the temperature in the room, but by random chance always registered the same temperature, it would make no difference to the function of the thermostat; but the truth of perception requires more than just seeing yellow when yellow is there – the object has to cause the experience.
